Last week, I shared some benefits of therapy, so I thought it would now be appropriate to share some reasons why a person can or should seek therapy.
I personally would like to thank Sigmund Freud for creating talk therapy. If you do not know Sigmund Freud, please research his work. He believed that when people talk in therapeutic spaces, the therapist will be able to explore the person’s unconscious thoughts and experiences, which could help him/her gain insight in different areas of his/her lives. He used tools such as free association, and my favorite tool, dream interpretation, to help uncover these “unconscious thoughts”
. Okay, let me stop myself here..Freud was the first psychologist that I studied in depth, so I can probably write a book about his work. In a nutshell, talk therapy is one of the greatest inventions ever.
Alright, I know you think I’m biased, because I’m a therapist, but I promise I would feel this way even if I wasn’t a therapist (what? I promise I would!). Everyone should try therapy at some point in their lives.
In a nutshell, talk therapy is one of the greatest inventions ever.
Here are ten reasons to seek therapy:
- Emotional challenges
- Relationship issues
- Mental health concerns
- Life Transitions
- Work/Academic Stress
- Behavioral/Lifestyle Challenges
- Trauma/Past Experiences
- Personal Growth
- Specialized issues
- Self-care
Please note that this is just a short list; there are many other reasons why a person may seek counseling.
If you are not sure if it will be helpful to you, you can always schedule a consultation first.
Thanks for coming back to spend time with me!
Until next time,
Dr. E
